Strictly speaking , anything that lightens the hair bleaches it , but in the present context bleaching refers specifically to any treatment that removes color from the hair - rather than adding color , which  is the purpose of permanent colorants. These are several different types of bleach on the market and they range from the mild brighteners that lift hair color a couple of shades to the more powerful mixes that completely strip hair of its natural color 

Bleaching is quite difficult to do and is best left to a professional hairdressers . If misused it can be very harsh and drying on the hair . To get the best results make sure your hair is in optimum condition  prior to bleaching . Once the hair has been bleached , regular intensive conditioning treatment essential .

Don't wash newly permed hair for 48 hours after processing as any stress can cause curls to relax 

Use shampoos and conditioners formulated for permed hair .They help retain the correct moisture 

balance and prolong the perm 

Always use a wide - toothed comb and work from the ends upwards . Never brush the hair 

Blot wet hair dry before styling to prevent stretching 

Avoid using too much heat on permed hair . If possible , wash , condition , and leave to dry naturally 

if your perm has lost its bounce , mist with water or try a curl reviver . These are designed to put instant volume and bounce into permed hair . They are also ideal for eliminating frizziness on naturally curly hair 

Expect your perm to last three to six months , depending on the technique and lotion used.
