human demodex

What is Human Demodex ?

Demodex are microscopic mites and is a conditional - pathogenic parasites . These are 2 types of human demodex . Demodex Brevis which is slightly shorter and lives in sebaceous glands and Demodex Folliculorum which lives in hair follicles . Adults mites are 100-300 microns in length . A weakened immune system will resulted in infestation of demodex mites that will cause skin and scalp disorder and problems









Increased numbers of demodex mites have been observed in the following condition :

" Pityriasis folliculorum " - rough , dry and scalp
( This dermal inflammation manifests it self as a diffuse erythema of the affected areas ; scalp , dry skin ; and , in certain cases , rosacea like lesions ) .

Rosacea , particularly asymmetrical papulopustular or granulomatous variants

Blepharitis ( inflammation of the eyelid margins )

Perioral dermatitis
